Black and Blue

Image

As dusk lies between day and night
there is a kind of dusk of dusk,
almost as clearly defined
as the middle of a draw-bridge.

Black is the rising night
(for night does not fall
but rises from this ground I stand on:
The last light is always in the sky!)

Blue is the parting day
(for days do not end
but go to the heaven that is memory:
The last light is always in the sky!)

This is the time for all sorts of horrors:
The time to kill and die
and the time to say that it is over.
The time to stand here all alone again.
